Home They Brought The Warrior Dead - R.I.P. Sarabjit Singh

Written By one-liners on Saturday, May 4, 2013 | May 04, 2013

May 04' 2013

Wrapped in the Indian Tricolour the dead Sarabjit Singh received a hero's welcome which he missed seeing it alive. It is very sad to note that the Indian government failed in its effort to convince Pakistan to release Sarabjit. No matter what went behind the doors of power.

Thousands were present to bid final adieu to the deceased Sarabjit, who languished in a Lahore jail for 22 years and was finally done away with brutally by Pakistani inmates. A very planned way that executed his demise.

It was a scene of people and people everywhere. Even not an inch of space was spared to see the warrior in his town. The scenario was a mega emotional one. The entire village of Bhikiwind thronged to the cremation ground to be part of the final funeral rites.

When the funeral pyre was lit with fire by Dalbir Kaur, sister of the deceased, a unanimous feeling of anguish and anger poured out from those present there. The multitude chanted in unison- "Sabarjit Singh Amar Rahe" (Long Live Sabarjit Singh).

It has become evident, that in the near future, the relationship between Pakistan and India will drop to a huge on-time low.

Suicide Attackers Killed In Srinagar Were From Pakistan: India

Written By one-liners on Saturday, March 16, 2013 | March 16, 2013

By ONE Liners Agency
March 14, 2013

Indian home minister Shushilkumar Shinde says two killed terrorists in Srinagar, Kashmir on Wednesday seemed have been from Pakistan as items recovered appeared from the neighboring country origin.

Suicide attackers launched terror attack in Srinagar on Wednesday in which 5 CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel were killed. It is learned the two terrorists may have entered inside the police public school compound through a small gap in the fencing in Bemina area and then opened fire. Four civilians too were injured in the attack.

From the terrorists two AK rifles, two pistols, five magazines, four grenades and other weapon accessories have been recovered. Shinde said the ointment tube recovered is learned to have been manufactured in Karachi, Pakistan and dairies containing phone numbers have also been recovered.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has strongly rejected the allegation of their involvement in the attack.

Following the attack and death of CRPF personnel a curfew has been imposed after midnight in Srinagar district.

In the Zoonimar area group of stone pelters attacked CRPF yesterday, which was counter attacked by opening fire that killed 22-year-old youth.

Sources said only one CRPF out of 5 killed had weapons and among the 15 injured only 5 were equipped heavily during the militant attack. It is also learned intelligence input was with the authorities about a possible attack on the camps following the hanging of Afzal Guru on February 9 in an Indian jail. However, CRPF said there were no specific alert about Srinagar and it is difficult to preempt any suicide attack as such fidayeens did not enter the area overnight.

CRPF has cleared the doubt saying only one-third of the 25,000 personnel are deployed with weapons in Srinagar.

IG CRPF VS Yadav said, "We have a standard operating procedure and that was followed. One-third of the jawans of the concerned (CRPF) company were armed, one third was carrying the riot gear and one-third had lathis."

Following the attack the CRPF has postponed the plan of pulling out three battalions from the region. The personnel are wanted in the Naxal-affected areas on Andhra Pradesh-Chattisgarh border.

The 5 CRPF jawans martyred are laid to rest today. Other personnel, police officers, DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Police Ashok Prasad and Director General of CRPF Pranay Sahay paid floral tributes. Floral wreaths were laid on the coffins before the martyr were flown to their native places.

The killed personnel in the attack are Assistant Sub-Inspector A B Singh, and constables Satish Shah, Subhash, L Parmol and Om Prakash.

Suicide Bomber Kills 40 In Pakistan Mosque, 100 Wounded

August 19, 2011

At least 40 have been killed and 100 others injured in Peshawar, Pakistan after a suicide bomber struck a mosque during Friday prayers in the holy month of Ramadan.

So far no group has claimed any responsibility of the attack, but previously the Islamist militants like the Taliban had targeted mosques.

The mosque where the attack took place is in Ghundi, a village in the Khyber tribal region in the tribal belt of Pakistan. The region has been a Islamist militant's base for long and multiple operations have been waged by the Pakistani army at pacifying the region.

About four hundred people gathered for prayers in the Sunni mosque in afternoon.

The TV footage showed heavily damaged building, and scattered prayer caps, prayer mats and shoes across a blood-splattered floor.

According to village people, there were no security at the mosque which made easy for the suicide bomber to walk in undetected.

Since two bombings in mid of June this year, the attack appeared the deadliest.

Pakistani Taliban and the affiliates of the group stage such attacks frequently in Pakistan to oppose the alliance of Pak government with the United States.

August 15, 2011

In the Vintage Newspaper section today we are revisiting India and Pakistan independence in 1947. Below are just few of the chosen newspapers' extracts that covered the news of India and Pakistan independence, partition of India and Pakistan, and riots started on the eve of independence.
The Windsor Daily Star - August 14, 1947 (Click on image to view full size)
This is how India is divided. The white spaces are the princely states, which either adhere to British rule or are being governed by their maharajahs as independent states...

The Border Cities Star - January 27, 1930 (Click on image to view full size)
Three hundred Communist mill workers rushed the platform at Chowpathy Sea Face Sunday while a monster crowd was holding an independence day meeting, pulled down the independence flag and sought to hoist the red flag in its place...

The Pittsburg Press - January 28, 1930 (Click on image to view full size)

Communism, is not, and never has been a serious menace in the United States, but the Indian movement for independence, is a serious menace to the British empire.

That movement has reached a point where it will certainly cost the loss of an untold amount of property, if not an untold number of lives...

Manila Standard - August 15, 1997 (Click on image to view full size)
Cultural fiestas, marches by people who fought for India's independence, singing and dancing were to herald India's golden jubilee celebrations of freedom from the British.

But the celebrations beginning Thursday evening and continuing on independence day Friday were likely to be muted. Pride at the accomplishments of the last five decades is mixed with despair that India faces so many problems, from poverty to political corruption to ethnic, class and religious tensions...

Youngstown Vindicator - August 13, 1947 (Click on image to view full size)
Religious riots breaking out on the eve of Indian independence have killed at least 57 persons and started large fires burning throughout the city of Lahore. The Indian News agency reported today.

The report said 63 other persons were injured during the clashes between Moslems and Hindus. All schools were closed. Thousands of persons remained in their homes for safety...

The Day - August 15, 1947 (Click on image to view full size)
What ought to be for the populace of India a day of entire rejoicing seems to be proving to be a manifestation of bloodshed and renewed strife. After more than two centuries of British rule, India now enjoys its freedom and independence. The great sub-continent is being divided into separate Indian and Pakistan states whose destinies will be in their own hands for weal or for woe in days to come. At the moment the northern province of the Punjab is experiencing one of the bloodiest orgies of violence and communal rioting in its long and checkered career...

The Sydney Morning Herald - August 15, 1947 (Click on image to view full size)
The two new British Dominions of India and Pakistan come into being at mid-night to-night.

In Karachi, capital of Pakistan, the Moslem Dominion, the retiring Viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten, paid tribute to those Indian leaders who had helped arrive at a peaceful solution for a transfer of power. He read to the Pakistan Constituent Assembly a message of greetings and good wishes from the King. To-morrow, Lord Mountbatten becomes Governor General of India...

Pak Ranger Gets Death Sentence For Killing Unarmed Civilian

Written By Admin on Friday, August 12, 2011 | August 12, 2011

By STAFF Writer
August 12, 2011

A paramilitary Rangers force member of Pakistan has been sentenced to death for killing unarmed civilian Sarfaraz Shah in June. Five other Rangers have been given life imprisonment along with a civilian by the anti-terrorism court today. A fine of 200,000 rupees and 100,000 rupees have been imposed on each rangers and the civilian respectively.

Sarfaraz Shah was killed in Karachi, which was caught on a video and televised through different media. This deepen anger of people against Pakistan security forces that were earlier considered as a failure in detecting the US commando raid in the killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden in May this year.

The video footage of the killing showed Sarfaraz Shah being shot by the Rangers in a public park at a close range in Karachi.

The civilian who has been imposed life imprisonment is seen in the footage grabbing hair of Sarfaraz Shah and dragging him over to the Rangers. One soldier shoots Shah twice even after he is seen pleading for mercy. The footage ends showing Shah falling to the ground in a pool of blood and the Rangers stood around.

Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik, despite any evidence in the video footage, claimed Shah had been carrying unlicensed weapon. Rehman's ministry is responsible for the Rangers.

Sarfaraz Shah's brother Salik Shah said, "We are satisfied with the punishment, and we hope that the higher courts will also keep them and overturn the appeals of the accused."

Earlier, after the shooting footage was broadcast, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan condemned it saying that extrajudicial killings are increasingly becoming common in the country. As a followup to this, the head of the paramilitary Rangers force and the Sindh police chief were fired by authorities in compliance with a Supreme Court order.

26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack’s Key David Headley Reveals Details

Written By one-liners on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 | May 24, 2011

By STAFF Reporter
TUESDAY, May 24, 2011

INDIA NEWS - The Pakistani planners of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks paid great attention to the smallest details, reveals key plotter David Coleman Headley in Chicago. The 50 year-old Pakistani-American had played a significant role in Mumbai attacks, pleading guilty to all the 12 charges brought against him.

Mr. Headley had offered a rare behind-the-scenes look into the planning of the Mumbai attacks, which had left the financial capital of India paralyzed for three days. The plea bargain required David to fully cooperate and reveal whatever he knew about the Mumbai terror attack and he did exactly that.

The US Assistant Attorney Daniel Collins had carefully extracted from him the major and minor details of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. Headley's own attorney was sitting in the front row, as his client revealed the information in somewhat subdued tone. The information disclosed was remarkable and showed that the planners paid attention to every detail.

Headley told that he was even told how to pray so as to avoid "mihrab", i.e., the dark spot that appears on the forehead of the Muslims as their foreheads constantly rub against the floor while praying. He told that he was to enter India on a US passport, as a white American, so a dark spot on his forehead could arouse suspicion. Hence, he was asked to pray with his head up. Headley also informed the court that he had pointed out that train announcements in Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus was made in English and Marathi. So if the attackers did not know the language, they would not be able to find out when the trains were arriving.

Headley and his companions: Sajid Mir, a handler of Lashkar-e-Taliba, and Major Iqbal, a Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent, had discussed in grea detail every aspect of the plan, from where the attackers were to land to how they were to be transferred from aPakistani vessel to an Indian vessel to thje nearest taxi stand, everything was discussed in great detail.

PNS Mehran Attacked By Militants
By ONE Liners Agency

PAKISTAN NEWS- Even before the dust has been settled down over the killing of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, Pakistan has witnessed another brewing. At least 20 heavily armed terrorists attacked Pakistan naval base of the port city of Karachi. In the attack, militants killed five guard and destroyed two surveillance planes.

The PNS Mehran located within the Faisal airbase was struck by the terrorists at around 10.40 pm (local time) last night, throwing grenades and firing indiscriminately with automatic weapons, hand grenades and rocket propelled grenades (RPG) that triggered a battle between the security forces and the attackers. This is the headquarters of the Pakistan's naval air arm where in the early morning there were fifteen loud blasts heard.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, which has stepped into attacks, from the historic death of the al-Qaeda leader bin Laden has claimed responsibility for this attack.

The Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan told foreign agencies that after the matyrdom of Osama they had already warned they would carry out even bigger attacks. He further said that the terrorists in the naval base had enough supplies to survive a three day siege.

The Pakistani Prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani dispatched the Interior minister Rehman Malik to Karachi to monitor the situation. He told that the terrorists had entered the base from three different directions. He also said that one building in the premises was still under the control of the terrorists where heavy firing was still going on.

He added that the situation tackled very carefully to minimize human losses and secure the assets. He also said that this attack was not only against a navy establishment but also against the whole nation.

There are unconfirmed reports of four to five terrorists being either killed or captured by the security forces.

Pakistan Leaks C.I.A Officer's Name, Angered US

C.I.A Officers Name Leaked In Pakistan Media
By STAFF Writer
May 11, 2011

PAKISTAN NEWS - A top C.I.A spy has been identified by the Pakistani news media, which triggered anger in Central Intelligence Agency, accusing Pakistan to complicated the work of the agency aftermath Osama bin Laden's hunt.

The leak of the agent's identification has opened a row of rifts between C.I.A and the Pakistani spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate, or ISI. Pakistan has already stained its relationship with US over the fact that Bin laden hid in the country for years. However, in an address before Parliament, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani strongly denied any knowledge and responsibility for Bin Laden hideout in Abbottabad,

Prime Minister Gilani to boot condemned the United States for its intrusion without consent and called it violation of the country's sovereignty. Further, he added Laden's presence in the country of years actually an intelligence failure of the "whole world". He also denied any involvement of ISI or army with al-Qaeda's chief and dismissed all suspects of American.

The prime minister's statement and consequently leak of C.I.A official's identification signaled a fragile relation between two countries, witnessing lesser transparency and cooperation from Pakistan.

The Pakistan spy agency gave the identity of C.I.A station chief to The Nation, a conservative daily newspaper, popularly known for staunch supporter of ISI. It is believed that the ISI occasionally plants stories in news media and also alleged to pay some top level journalists.

It is unknown that whether the name was deliberately misspelled in the newspaper or not, but it opens the identification. This is the second time when ISI have done this type of deliberate revelation.
Last December, the covered of the station chief was unveiled by the ISI and eventually C.I.A had to leave the country. It is reported that the station chief started receiving death threats and forced to leave the country.

The new station chief has shown reluctance to leave the country. He is considered one of the sharpest and toughest undercover C.I.A officers and the man behind the supervision of the raid against Osama bin Laden.

A few incidents have testified the acrimonious relationship between new station chief and the ISI chief Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha.

Who Gains Who Loses After Laden's Death

Written By Admin on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 | May 10, 2011

PERSPECTIVE
TUESDAY, May 10, 2011

US President Barack Obama - THUMBS UP

The US President has seen his dismal approvals surge by as much as 15 percent points. More usefully, killing Obama bin Laden has killed off Republicans claims he was a security wimp. But it isn't all politics. Obama has been just as determined as George W. Bush on destroying Al Qaeda.

Indian PM Manmohan Singh - SMALL UP

India gains because Pakistan is down. Sort of. India has been busy pointing out that the Pakistani military is in ca boots with every possible terrorist you can name. But Singh is too focussed on his peace drive to make much of what's happening in Afghanistan. Perhaps Kayani will be more realistic about his country's future - in which case the talks may actually be fruitful.

General Ashfaq Kayani of Pakistan Army - BIG DOWN

There is strong speculation the Pakistani army chief will be told to retire. Otherwise, Kayani was looking good. He had Hamid Karzai over a barrel, Manmohan Singh in a corner. The US was pumping in billions. He could still win Afghanistan but for many Pakistanis he will just bet the soldier who let the country's guard down.

Al Qaeda - BIG DOWN

Given that so many of its affiliates and members had sworn oath of fealty to Bin Laden himself the groups main problem will be keeping everything together. Al Qaeda needs some spectacular evil otherwise it may find itself overtaken by other, younger terror groups. We know one thing: Ayman al Zawahiri, the bookish number two, won't hack it when it comes to street cred.

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai - SMALL UP

After the Abbottabad incident, Karzai crowed how it had once again been shown that terrorism wasn't an Afghan phenomenon, it was a Pakistani one. But he still has too few options. He's being forced to seek talks with the Taliban and toe the Pakistani line. Bin Laden's death may help, but his problems are Af and Pak, not Arab.

Taliban - POTENTIAL UP

The Taliban are a cluster of Afghan militant groups. Their friendship with the Arab-dominated Al Qaeda made them the targets of the US military machine. They now have the chance to become bigger than everyone. If they play their cards right they could get the US to begin leaving Afghanistan. If they play them better they could end up ruling Kabul again.

Twitter Revolution: Bin Laden Raid Tweeted Live

TUESDAY, May 03, 2011

The U.S. force raid on Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was tweeted live, unknowingly, by an IT consultant in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Sohaib Athar, living in Abbottabad where bin Laden was killed, tweeted initially before the assault that a overhead helicopter was hovering. He added that the helicopter may not be of Pakistan government.

Athar was not aware that he was tweeting about the biggest milestone of U.S. war against terrorism until Barack Obama announced on national television that Laden is dead.

At 1 a.m. local time Athar posted his first tweet. He said, "Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event)."

Next he tweeted about a loud sound of as explosion which is now known to all about the U.S. forces blowing up their damaged helicopter.

Athar tweeted, "A huge window shaking bang here in Abbottabad Cantt. I hope its not the start of something nasty :-S."

While the assault was in progress, this IT consultant also drew information from local friends in the area who were online at the same time.

He said in his tweet, "The few people online at this time of the night are saying one of the copters was not Pakistani..."

He continued, "People are saying it was not a technical fault and it was shot down. I heard it CIRCLE 3-4 times above, sounded purposeful."

According to the US officials, the raid was for 40 mins. Athar tweeted two hours later that still a military presence is there in the area.

Athar's biography in Twitter describes him as: "An IT consultant taking a break from the rat-race by hiding in the mountains with his laptops."

OSAMA BIN LADEN IS DEAD

Al-Qaeda leader Bin Laden is Dead, says U.S. President Barack Obama.

Al-Qaida mastermind and the most wanted face of terrorism Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan in a firefight with United States forces on Sunday, announced President Obama.

Mr. President declared in a dramatic late-night appearance in White House East Room that "justice has been done."

Six days after 9/11 WTC attacks a reporter asked the then U.S. President George W. Bush, "Do you want Bin Laden dead?" Bush replied, "I want him — I want justice." About a decade after the quest ended with the death of Osama.
Crowds outside White House after the news of Laden's death flashed

In a 80-minute confrontation with American forces in the medium-sized city of Abbttabad in Pakistan came end of Bin Laden. He was presumed to be hiding for long in this remote tribal area, about an hour's drive from Islamabad and home to Pakistani military base.

The massive compound where he was sheltered included a house about eight times larger than other homes in the locality. The house, however, had no Internet connections and not even a telephone.

According to a senior administration official, when American operatives converged, Osama "resisted the assault force" and in the middle of intense gun battle he was killed.

The official added further that first time last summer intelligence and military officials learned about a "high-value target" being protected in the compound. Since then a plan was being worked to get Laden. President Obama presided few national security meetings in beginning of March at the White House to discuss about the operation plan and on Friday morning he gave the final order of strike.

Al-Qaida Leaders Were In Pakistan On 9/11: WikiLeaks

Written By Anonymous on Monday, April 25, 2011 | April 25, 2011

By ETHAN Markoff

WORLD NEWS - Yet another sensational report published by whistle blower WikiLeaks, saying some senior al-Qaida leaders were in Pakistan's Karachi city on 9/11 twin towers attack day. The documents were published by Washington Post accessed by WikiLeaks, saying most al-Qaida leaders were returned to Afghanistan within a day from Karachi.

The media report revealed that the prime al-Qaida leaders were in Karachi on September 11, 2001. One leader was admitted at a hospital and treated for tonsillectomy and another was buying lab equipment for a biological weapons program. Other al-Qaida key members were in New York and Washington, enjoying the destruction on television. However, within a day most of the major leaders were back to Afghanistan.

The documents gathered by Washington Post from WikiLeaks speak of a big meeting of al-Qaida’s senior member in early December 2001 in Afghanistan's mountainous Zormat region. It also speaks about the al-Qaida’s chief Osama bin Laden who was seen in Afghanistan's Kandahar province. There in a small guesthouse he instigated militants to “fight against the infidel invaders in the name of Allah.”

For the next three months, Osama and his chief associate Ayman al Zawahiri traveled by car to several areas in Afghanistan and during this time he almost ran out of money and borrowed $7,000 from one of his protectors. He returned the money within a year.

WikiLeaks also documented some geographic locations for bin Laden in his clandestine resident in Pakistan.

India-Pak Cricket Paves Diplomatic Scripting Between Conjoined Twins

Written By one-liners on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 | March 30, 2011

From EDITOR'S Desk

INDIA / PAKISTAN NEWS - Is India-Pakistan's cricket world cup semi-final match in Mohali today a beginning of a careful diplomatic scripting that opens up later this week? The cricket match, of course, seems to have changed, overnight, the scope and possibilities of dialogue.
----------------------------------
Check below for LIVE India-Srilanka Match
World Cup Final India vs Srilanka, 02 April, 2011
----------------------------------
The national teams of Pakistan and India advanced to semifinal round of the WC tournament and they are meeting today in India in presence of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistani counterpart Yousaf Raza Gilani, who was invited as a surprise to watch the match.

What the two prime ministers will talk for hours while sitting together and watching the match? Can it be a breakthrough between the two conjoined twins?

One thing is clear from Dr. Singh's invitation that he has repeatedly tried to advance diplomacy with the neighbor. As seen, he had also invited Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, though he declined.

Analysts draw a mixed conclusion. Few says the invitation of Dr. Singh may push forward talks between the two countries while others say it is a political stunt which may risk the lower-level talks scheduled to start this week.

Strategic affairs analyst in the capital, Brahma Challaney, said: "It has caught everybody by surprise... In diplomacy, you have to do the preparatory work first if you want to have a result. This sounds like an impulsive move."

Earlier, the cricket diplomacy was tried twice. In 1987 Pakistan President Mohammad Zia ul-Haq attended the Indo-Pak match, but the relations soon deteriorated between the two countries.

In 2005, Dr. Singh invited the then Pak President Pervez Musharraf to watch together India-Pakistan cricket match in New Delhi, ushering in a period of secret back-channel talks that almost culminated in a breakthrough deal on Kashmir.

Whatever... Right or wrong this time.

Dr. Singh wrote in The Indian Express yesterday, "If the mood at Mohali turns out to be good, Dr. Singh and Gilani might help give the dialogue at the bureaucratic level a much needed boost."

India and Pakistan were founded in 1947. Since then, the two nuclear-power neighbors had fought three wars. The diplomatic progress of the two countries were shattered in 2008 after Pak mounted terror attacks killed more than 160 people in Mumbai.

Written By Bob Goswami on Sunday, February 6, 2011 | February 06, 2011

By BOB Goswami

PAKISTAN NEWS - The fierce battle between Pakistani military and militant groups in the tribal region of Mohmand forced civilians to evacuate the place and took shelter in temporary camps.

In the recent times Pakistani troops have been using heavy weapons and helicopters to wipe out suspected militant position and that has caused heavy toll on the local residents. It is reported that the region Mohmand, on the border with Afghanistan has been serving as a safe den for the Taliban and al-Qaeda militants.

"We are targeting militant hideouts there," military spokesman Maj-Gen Athar Abbas confirmed.

The army called the operation a ‘search and clearance operation’ and reported to kill at least 70 militants.

In this battle civilians are greatly distressed by sudden bombarding and firing. A local administration told that residents displaced from Safi, Pindiali and Baizai districts to temporary camps. People are deeply feared about mines and other hazards and moved to safer places. Officials stated that total of displaced civilians were almost 25,000.

There are camps in the Nahaquai area and Danishkool, 40 and 25 km respectively from Ghalanai. Official report says at least 22,000 people have been registered in the two camps in last few days. Other than that people have also sought shelter in schools and government buildings.

In the recent times Mohmand area has been heavily disturbed by militant activities relative to other tribal areas in Pakistan. In recent weeks, terrorists have underwent shelling at dozen schools and assailed checkpoints.

Asma Jehangir Becomes First Lady In Pakistan to Head Bar Association

Written By Bob Goswami on Friday, October 29, 2010 | October 29, 2010

By GAUTAM Jha

PAKISTAN NEWS - Well-known human rights activist Asma Jehangir has surprised the world of being the first lady to become the president of Supreme Court Bar Association in Pakistan. She won a closely-contested election by 38 votes over her nearest and strongest rival Ahmed Owais. She asserted that she would work for the independence of the bar. Her agenda was that the lawyers should not be subservient to judges as any such development would hollow the integrity and honesty of judiciary.

This is the proud moment for Pakistan as well as the first step to reduce the gap of gender-equality. Speaking to the media after winning the election, Ms Jehangir interpreted her victory as a “defeat for reactionary forces and the establishment”. C.I.A Drone Attacks In Pakistan To Curb Taliban

Written By Anonymous on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 | September 28, 2010

PAKISTAN NEWS - C.I.A has rapidly increased drone attacks in Pakistan to thwart Taliban. According to American officials, C.I.A has drastically increased its bombing campaign in the mountainous terrain of Pakistan. The campaign is aimed to cripple the Taliban stronghold in the region, Talibans are main rival of American soldiers in Afghanistan and plan attack against U.S troops.

The C.I.A has begun its bombing campaigns as a covert war where it attacks with armed drone aircraft. In a single month it has launched 20 attacks and made strategic plan to cripple the terrorist’s plots from militant based in Pakistan.

The increasing air strikes reflect the frustration of Afghanistan and U.S on Pakistan government less aggressive move to thwart the militants from the country's western mountains. The U.S officials have alleged Pakistan to neglect military operations inside North Waziristan, which is considered as a stronghold of Taliban militants.

Besides C.I.A air strikes, the area is continuously bombarded with U.S helicopters air strikes that estimated killed at least 50 militants in the region. The militant group called Haqqani network believed to attack against American troops was targeted by the U.S air strikes.

However, Pakistan strongly criticized the helicopter attacks, arguing that it against NATO’s mandate, which says the military action, must not reach beyond the Afghanistan border.

Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top American commander in Afghanistan recently warned Pakistani commanders they would launch ground operations in Pakistan tribal areas if Pakistan didn’t take a constructive action against militants.

“Petraeus wants to turn up the heat on the safe havens,” said one senior administration official, explaining the sharp increase in drone strikes. “He has pointed out to the Pakistanis that they could do more.”

Pakistani officials have angrily criticized the helicopter attacks, saying that NATO’s mandate in Afghanistan does not extend across the border in Pakistan.

As evidence of the growing frustration of American officials, Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top American commander in Afghanistan, has recently issued veiled warnings to top Pakistani commanders that the United States could launch unilateral ground operations in the tribal areas should Pakistan refuse to dismantle the militant networks in North Waziristan, according to American officials.

“Petraeus wants to turn up the heat on the safe havens,” said one senior administration official, explaining the sharp increase in drone strikes. “He has pointed out to the Pakistanis that they could do more.”

It is feared that escalating air strikes by C.I.A could stimulate the resentment in Muslim world against Americans. A recent attempt to detonate a truck filled with explosive in Times Square was an implication of C.I.A bombing campaign.

Pakistan Flood Coverage Lingers

Written By Anonymous on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 | September 14, 2010

By ETHAN Markoff

Some of the natural disasters shock the whole humanity, intensifying the belief system that there is something beyond the reach of mankind. A man is blissfully helpless when it comes to head-to-head with nature, yet all the development of mankind depends on struggle against the nature. The queer permutation combination of man and nature sometimes leave dreadful impression that haunts people for long.

The Pakistan flood is yet another example of natural disaster that has thrown hundreds of thousand people into adverse condition and finally caused a million people's death. The worst-ever flood in the South East Asia occurred about two months back, and still capturing attention of the whole world.

In the last five years, there had been other similar disasters like the earthquake in Kashmir in 2005, the 2006 Asian tsunami or Haiti's crisis in 2010. However, most of the stories went into the oblivion within a few days or week. The media attention moved from the disaster to the different humanitarian angles. But the current Pakistan flood disaster can't get out of the disaster coverage;every single day some new developments make the wound green.

Thousands of people are solely depended on the aircraft-supplied ration, as the roads and bridges to those areas have been washed away. The media coverage seems still lingering on the first stage, which covers the ongoing disaster and plights of the people.

Some predict that the flood is the most horrible natural disaster in this century. It is reported that almost half of the country has been submerged and about eight million people have been affected. The different relief organizations, namely the United Nations, Red Cross, Oxfam and other international organizations are trying their best but still the aid is not channelized properly into the right areas. The disaster has undoubtedly quivered the country's economy from the hinges. Relief Web has frequently updated the pages with maps, data, and reports on Pakistan's flood.

In a recent news, it is reported that a few more towns in the country are threatened by the rising water level in Lake Manchar. The lake is the biggest source of freshwater in the country and can inflict more people in the Southern Pakistan. People are moving from the towns of Bhon, Jhingira and other adjacent towns, which are situated near the lake.

The crisis leaves million people helpless and has strained the nerve of the government. However, the rising anger among the victims has made the situation worse. The sufferers complain that the aid is not reaching them quickly enough. Some analysts say the flood is more disastrous than the Haiti earthquake, the tsunami or the Pakistan earthquake.

''It looks like the number of people affected in this crisis is higher than the Haiti earthquake, the tsunami or the Pakistan earthquake, and if the toll is as high as the one given by the government, it's higher than the three of them combined,'' Maurizio Giuliano, spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, told to reporters.

The increasing number of towns affected by rising water level also invites media to play an active part rather than just focusing  on the stories. A few has taken the initiative - The BBC World Service Trust has started a humanitarian information service or "Infoasaid" for the victims. They are also planning to carry broadcast in Pashtu as the Pashtu speaking people are mostly resided in the north-western part of the country.

Most of the media coverage is focused on the ongoing devastation as well as trying to pull up the affected people from the adverse position but as soon as the acute phase is over and enter into the rebuilding phase, the media coverage might be swerved into different shapes.

Indian Flood Aid Accepted, But No Disaster Diplomacy

Written By Anonymous on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 | September 01, 2010

By ETHAN Markoff

PAKISTAN – In a major goodwill gesture, Pakistan have accepted the flood aid offered by India. Earlier it was $5 million but later on after a concrete assessment of damage, India had decided to increase it to $25. However, analysts from both countries say the disaster diplomacy will not really improve the relation between two countries.

Pakistan flood is one of the biggest natural disasters in years, which submerged a significant portion of the country and made about 6 million people homeless. But despite an acute shortage of fund, Pakistan delayed deciding whether to accept help from India because of long term tension between two nations.

"Pakistan has conveyed its deep appreciation of India's offer of assistance," Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna told parliament. "Pakistan requested on Aug 27 that India may channel its contribution to the flood victims through the U.N."

The flood submerged an area the size of Italy and it is too difficult for aid workers to respond to sufferers whose immediate needs are mere clean water, food, shelter and medical assistance.

Analysts wonder how the Pakistani people will take Indian aid and that concern most to the authorities. Initially Pakistan was reluctant to take any aid from India but analysts think that pressure from United States played a role to accept aid by Pakistan.

There is age-old dispute running between two countries. There is always a poor try to improve the relations but the deadlock between two countries seems too intricate. The improved relationship got a harsh blow after 2008 Mumbai attack that claimed 166 Indian citizens. India accused Pakistan based terrorist group was the mastermind behind the attack and the relation once again tampered.
