Samoa government is renewing effort to promote Samoan language. Bilingual school curriculum has been proposed for the teaching of Samoan language from Year 1 to 13.
Magele Mauiliu Megele, the Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, highlighted Samoan language importance being used in schools last week during BlueSky SamoaTel short story competition.
Complemented by the development of Bilingual Policy, the major reform of the government is a New Bilingual Primary Curriculum, which focuses on English as well as Samoan language.
Samoa may become an official language soon in the country if a proposed Samoan Language Bill 2011 is passed this year through the Samoa Parliament.
After the bill is passed, Samoan Language Commission will be established. The language will then be used in any communication, records or discussion determined by the Commission.
