Longest Serving Westpac Fiji Bank Celebrates 110th Anniversary

By CITIZEN Journalist
August 9, 2011

FIJI NEWS - Westpac Fiji, the longest serving bank of the country, marked 110 years of service in Suva. The bank started its operation in 1901, and now it has a forty per cent market share in Fiji.

On the celebration occasion General Manager Jason Stephens of Westpac Fiji said the success of the bank is a testament to the commitment it gives to the employees and customers.

He added that few dramatic changes were on the growth path of the bank but it has always played a pivotal role in Fiji, which is more than just offering banking services to the Fijians. Stephens mentioned that 95 per cent of the Westpac Fiji employees are Fiji citizens, and 35 per cent of the team leaders and managers are women. Earlier only New Zealanders and Australians ran the bank, and it only had male managers.

A cake cutting ceremony was held in the two weeks celebrations of Westpac Fiji at its flagship branch in Suva. The ceremony was attended by Barry Whiteside, Governor of Reserve Bank of Fiji, and Chairman of the National Trust of Fiji Robin Yarrow, along with the executive staff of Westpac.

About Westpac

Westpac, registered as Westpac Banking Corporation, is the second-largest bank in New Zealand, and one of the 'big four' banks in Australia. Is Sending Rakhi Online Virtually Practical - A CJ Inside Story

By CITIZEN Journalist
August 06, 2011

The big question which strikes me everytime I search for Rakhi Gifts on Google is to why every year the number of websites increasing to sell Rakhi on Raksha Bandhan online. Is it that the profit margin is more than four times if all the expenses and investments are substracted.

To some extent I do agree with my thoughts as one Rakhi in the market near my house just cost somewhere between Rupees 20 to Rupees 50, and on Rakhi selling websites the minimum cost of a Rakhi is around Rupees 150, which goes up to couple of thousands.

Is this the secret of selling Rakhi online with few most searched keywords such as Send Rakhi to India, Send Rakhi to USA, Send Rakhi Worldwide, Send Online Rakhi, and more. There is one more catch to online Rakhi selling, and that is its weight. The courier cost, or in other words the delivery cost, of Rakhi is the minimum due to the light weight nature of the product.

Lets take a quick tour of Google on top 5 websites selling online Rakhi. When I searched on Google 'Send Rakhi to India,' the below sites were in the top 5 position, excluding the sponsored links mounted there:

• www.onlinerakhistore.com
• rakhi.indiangiftsportal.com
• www.rakhimela.com

Next, I changed the country from India to USA and searched on Google. Below is what I see in the top 5 place:

• rakhi.indiangiftsportal.com/send-rakhi-us.html
• rakhi.rediff.com
• www.onlinerakhistore.com/rakhi-to-usa-c-15.html
• www.rakhisale.com

Let me reverse the notion of my search and use the word Buy instead of Send. Below is the result:

• rakhi.indiangiftsportal.com/rakhi-delivery-outside-india.html
• www.buyrakhionline.com
• hinduism.about.com/.../toprakhishoppingsites/Top_Rakhi_Shopping
• www.rakhimela.com/category/silver-rakhi-india

I searched for Send Online Rakhi and below is the result:

• rakhi.indiangiftsportal.com/rakhi-by-price.html
• www.onlinerakhistore.com
• www.rakhimela.com
• shopping.indiatimes.com/Raksha-Bandhan/ctl/20375538

Hmm...

I got the big players who are doing well this August in selling online Rakhi. In the above 4 searches the Top Rakhi Shopping Sites are:

• indiangiftsportal.com
• onlinerakhistore.com
• rakhimela.com
• sendrakhitoindians.com

Looks just virtual. Or does it has any practicality for me is not yet known, but of course the online Rakhi selling websites are too much helpful to Indians living abroad. Just few mouse clicks is what it takes for the sisters in USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and other overseas places to show their love to beloved brothers on the festive occassion of Raksha Bandhan.
