JAKARTA, Indonesia - A militant was sent to jail for twenty years by an Indonesian court for his role in 2001's twin bombings that brought to death 202 people of which most of them were foreigners, 88 Australians and seven Americans.
Umar Patek, alias Little Umar, remained silent and unmoved when the judge read the verdict to the 12-hour proceeding.
It is believed Patek is a leading member of Jemaah Islamiyah, the Al Qaeda-linked radical splinter group. Jemaah Islamiyah had been blamed for several terror attacks in the country, including the Bali blasts.
Patek was captured in 2011 from Abbottabad in Pakistan and his trial began in February this year. The prosecutors had leveled a total of 6 charges against him that included illegal firearm possession, concealing information about other terrorist acts and premeditate murder.
It is also believed Patek assembled explosives for Christmas Eve series of church bombings in 2000.
