PrivateX Hackers Inflicted Philippines Vice President Website

Website of Philippines Vice President Jejomar Binay was inflicted by hackers on Sunday, said a spokesman Joey Salgado today. The site was down for more than fifteen hours, but no serious damage has been reported. At least five other websites have been hacked by the hackers who have also warned of hacking more government sites.

Website of Office of Vice President was also hit by hackers last year to show the vulnerability of it. The site contains information on OVP's programs, projects and services.

At about 4 p.m. (local time) yesterday the OVP website was hacked by PrivateX group. The website is hosted by Advanced Science and Technology Institute (Asti).

Facebook page of PrivateX group made fun of the Department of Health in their latest post. It also mentioned names of other websites to be hacked by them soon that includes websites of Optical Media Board, Senate Eletoral Tribunal and Philippine National Radiation Institute.

Malaysian Citizen Sentenced In US For Hacking Federal Reserve Computer

A Malaysian hacker is sentenced to ten years of imprisonment by US District Judge yesterday who had earlier hacked the sites of US Federal Reserve along with that of some other banks.

The Malaysian national, Lin Mun Poo by name, admitted pleaded guilty on April 13 this year for the hacking of US central bank and several other financial institutions. He even admitted of stealing the bank card and credit card numbers from the banks and institutions.

Lin Mun Poo, 32, had hacked the server of US Federal Reserve and installed there a malicious software code.

In October 2010 the Malaysian citizen traveled to the US to sell off the stolen bank card and credit card numbers, said the prosecutors. The purchaser of the card numbers was an undercover United States agent that got him in trap and was arrested. He held more than 122,000 stolen card numbers with him.

According to the US Justice Department, Lin Mun Poo's "cybercrime activities also extended to the national security sector," which includes the hacking of a Pentagon contractor computer system that provides systems management services to military operations such as military transport.

In a statement the US Attorney Loretta Lynch said, "Today's sentence sends the message to hackers around the world that the United States is no place to conduct their business."

Hong Kong Stock Exchange Hit By Hackers, Trading Halted

HONG KONG NEWS - Hong Kong stock exchange website experienced "malicious hacking" on Wednesday forcing disruption of trading. The board of directors of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing halted trading at 1:30 p.m. (local time) releasing a press note of the halt due to "technical problems."

The hacking deprived investors from receiving important price-sensitive announcements from at least seven companies.

Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing (HKEx) is the second-high profile exchange this year to admit about the attack. Earlier, Nasdaq OMX was hacked. However, both the exchanges stressed that the trading systems had not been affected.

HKEx chief executive Charles Li said, "Our current assessment is that this is the result of a malicious attack by outside hacking." He added the whereabout of the hackers are not known and even what they had hoped of gaining from this attack.


In the morning the website of seven local-listed companies went off-line, leaving investors in the dark about the new price sensitive announcements. As a result, the exchange suspended trading on these companies. These companies, including Cathay Pacific airline and China Power International were due to make announcements during the lunch break.


The exchange's most liquid stock HSBC, also listed in London, was also halted of trading.
