Matthew C Martino - Film Producer, Actor, Writer, Businessman

Matthew C Martino is a well known Zimbabwean film producer, actor, writer and businessman. His three products Jericho (2013), Lets fly Documentary (2013) and Never Change (2013) have gained popularity, branding the young 21-year-old at par with other people in the industry.

Born in Harare in Zimbabwe on October 27, 1992, Martino moved to the UK when he was just 17. He attended drama club in the Shenfield high school. He has always been passionate about aviation since his adolescence. His career started with the publication of the book “Lets fly” which was released in 2012. He later in 2013, announced “Go For It”, his second book.

“Lets Fly Academy” is an aviation consultancy company that was founded by him in Oct 2012, but the firm reported losses later in 2013. However, Lets Fly has plans to specialize in selling pilot equipment and expand its business by the end of 2014.

Mathew also tried his luck in the production business by launching DM Productions, which is aimed at creating commercial British films with budget flexibility. The company was soon changed into a Sales Rep firm.

Mathew’s directing career started with the “Lets Fly”, a documentary that was aired in 2013 on TV Peru. Rumors spread about Martino retiring as a director, which he later dismissed. Martino however gave up modeling and acting after loud criticism. Rumors about Martino’s bankruptcy also were high, but he confirmed on to produce all films in which he has to invest in 2014. Martino revealed in an interview that he has plans to become a DJ again. He DJ’ed during his teen years.

Martino lives with his family that includes his parents and siblings.

Below are the top 10 countries in the world where high gas prices are the norm. The data has been revealed by British insurance firm Staveley Head. The government there anticipates an eventual decline in oil and gas production, and saves state petroleum revenues in the world’s second largest sovereign wealth fund, which was valued at over $500 billion in 2011.

Norway - $10.12 per gallon

Norway is world's 7th largest oil exporter and enjoy strong economy. About 20 percent of the country's revenue comes from petroleum sector.

Turkey - $9.99 per gallon

Economy of Turkey mostly enjoys free market and privatizing industry is getting a push. The country is highly dependent on oil and gas imports for 97 percent of its energy.

Netherlands - $9.13 per gallon

Being fifth largest economy in the eurozone, Netherlands economy grew rapidly until 2008 global financial crisis. Petroleum refining is a key part of the nations' industrial sector.

Italy - $9.01 per gallon

The country is eurozone's third largest economy with highest public perceptions of corruption in the region. It's underground economy make about 17 percent of the GDP. Tax evasion is also a widespread issue. Last year the government passed several packages to balance budget and the gas taxes was increased 24 percent.

Greece - $8.95 per gallon

Claimed being lagging in payment, the Iranian government stopped exporting crude oil to refiners in Greece in February 2012.

Denmark - $8.82 per gallon

The country levies high taxes on automobiles as well as on gasoline. A sales tax of 100 percent is levied on cars and 50 percent taxes on gasoline price. Though Denmark got more oil in the energy mix than US coming from North sea oil patch and not for Middle East, yet people mostly commute by walking, bicycle or public transport.

United Kingdom - $8.76 per gallon

Since March 2010 the prices of fuel have jumped 20 percent.

Sweden - $8.70 per gallon

The country has levied energy taxes and carbon taxes on fuel since 1991 imposed on households and giving concessions for industry. In 2006 it rose oil prices to become first oil free country in the world by 2020.

UK Pulls Diplomat Staff From Iran After Embassy Attack

UK EMBASSY ATTACKED NEWS - After yesterdays storming and ransacking of UK embassy and residential compound in Iran by protesters, Britain has evacuated diplomatic staff from the country.

According to Foreign Office, the evacuations were done to ensure safety of staff along with their families. First group of staff are to fly out to Dubai today. It has not been confirmed whether all the UK diplomats are being evacuated out of Iran.

The Iranian protesters smashed windows of two British diplomatic compounds in capital Tehran and torched car and British flag protesting against the newly introduced sanctions on Iran over the nuclear programme imposed by London.

Iran is the fifth biggest oil exporter in the world and it says the need of nuclear plants is for generation of electricity only.

UN Security Council, European Union and United States condemned the attack. UK Prime Minister David Cameron warned of "serious consequences". He added the failure of Iran government in defending the diplomat staff and British property was a disgrace.

In 1979 US embassy in Tehran was attacked and 52 Americans were taken hostage for 444 days. After the incidence US had cut diplomatic ties with Iran.

Deadly Harvest: Afghanistan Opium Cultivation Poses Challenges

AFGHANISTAN - Since the Taliban abolition in Afghanistan, insurgency is picking up steam. Adding insult to the injury, unparalleled augmentation of opium poppy cultivation throws challenges to anti-drug organizations. A U.N report says that a significant (almost 14%) percentage of Afghan population is involved in poppy cultivation and more than 80 percent of world’s opium is cultivated along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

Three years back US and UK had launched a big project to stop the cultivation, or least minimized it in Afghanistan. The much fanfare efforts have borne a little result. According to a report published three years back, Afghanistan alone produces 8,200 tonnes of opium in a year. The agricultural lands of poppy cultivation have also increased from 165,000 hectares to 193,000 hectares (2007 UNODC report).

A report said that Helmand province where still Taliban holds grip, is a major area of narcotic trade and cultivation. The demand of drugs in west gives a lucrative opportunity to Afghan farmers. An Afghan farmer can expect to earn $4,600 a hectare annually if he cultivates opium poppy. Comparing to wheat cultivation, a farmer can earn a meager $530 a year.

The U.N has triggered an alarm over the drug trafficking along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and asking foreign forces to wrestle against the peril.

“Since drug trafficking and insurgency alive off each other, the foreign military forces operating in Afghanistan have a vested interest in supporting counter-narcotics operations” UNODC Executive Director said.

The Taliban has a stronghold on the drugs trafficking. Like insurgent groups and guerilla forces in other parts of the world, the Taliban considers the taxing of revenues from the drug trade a legitimate tactic to fight the occupation forces. One of the biggest markets for heroin is the affluent West. But the easy availability of the drug has also helped it find new markets in neighboring countries.

According to UNODC report, opium production kills directly or indirectly over one hundred thousand people worldwide. The report said that most of these deaths would occur in China, India and South-East Asia. The addiction rates in Central Asian countries are said to be rising say that Taliban fighters are much better paid and motivated than the Afghan army personnel.
