A patent battle is going on between Microsoft and Google that may lead to the ban of Google Maps in Germany.
FOSS Patents' Florian Mueller reported today from Munich court saying Google and its Motorola Mobility subsidiary may lose the battle. The hearing is today where counsels will put the argument on claim construction, validity and infringement. Google Inc., its subsidiary Motorola Mobility LLC and MMI's German subsidiary together are liable for infringement of an important patent of Microsoft - EP0845124. It is European equivalent of U.S. Patent No. 6,240,360.
It is also learned that the win of Microsoft will become a big headache for Google as thereafter Google Maps will be blocked on the Web as well as in the apps in Germany.
Meanwhile, CNET reports a Google spokesman says they are confident in their position and will be looking forward in defending the claim in the court.
The decision of court may not come before June.

EURO CRISIS NEWS - The eurozone crisis is now paving its way in biting hard the local banks in Australia. It will be a headache soon for the Gillard government while the major Australian banks have already escalated warnings.
In recent weeks the banks have experienced increasing difficulties in borrowing money from the international markets, and are offering higher rates to investors to get funding and then lend it to mortgage-holders.
The National Australia Bank earlier agreed the government, citing increase in funding costs, when it passed 20 points of the Reserve Bank's 25-point cut in the official rates.
Warning has also been given by former bank executives and industry analysts that the future rate cuts is being further undermined by Europe conditions. They cited that Germany, AAA-rated, faced problems this week in raising funds from bonds investors.
Mike Smith, ANZ chief executive said that the country is in the middle of serious crisis presently.
Meanwhile, the Australian stockmarket slipped down yesterday for sixth consecutive day. S&P/ASX 200 is down 1.5% and closed at 3984.30.

Germany Marks 50th Anniversary Of Berlin Wall

Rise of Berlin Wall, a concrete barrier between East and West Berlin, covers 50 years, which divided Berlin and further defined the Cold War. It continuously reminds the citizens to stand up for democracy and freedom.
On Saturday, observing 50th anniversary of the Berlin Wall construction, the city's mayor and people commemorated the 125 victims killed then while trying to cross the 161-kilometer wall from communist East Berlin.
In 1945, after the defeat of Nazi, Germany was divided into four zones of occupation by the victorious World War II allies. West Germany housed the U.S., Britain and French, and East Germany became the territory of Soviet Union.
The East Germany communist authorities ordered sealing of all crossing points between the two Berlins with barbed wire on August 13, 1961. Later a wall was constructed dividing streets, neighborhoods, families and friendships. The wall had 45,000 cement blocks and watchtowers in dozens. East German border guards were ordered for shoot at sight to anyone spotted crossing the wall.
U.S. President Ronald Reagan, in June 1987, challenged Mikhail Gorbachev, the then Soviet leader, in his speech in Berlin to "tear down this wall." Two years later in November residents of East Germany brought down the Berlin wall as well as the government in the communist state. On October 3, 1990 both the Germany reunited.
