A patent battle is going on between Microsoft and Google that may lead to the ban of Google Maps in Germany.
FOSS Patents' Florian Mueller reported today from Munich court saying Google and its Motorola Mobility subsidiary may lose the battle. The hearing is today where counsels will put the argument on claim construction, validity and infringement. Google Inc., its subsidiary Motorola Mobility LLC and MMI's German subsidiary together are liable for infringement of an important patent of Microsoft - EP0845124. It is European equivalent of U.S. Patent No. 6,240,360.
It is also learned that the win of Microsoft will become a big headache for Google as thereafter Google Maps will be blocked on the Web as well as in the apps in Germany.
Meanwhile, CNET reports a Google spokesman says they are confident in their position and will be looking forward in defending the claim in the court.
The decision of court may not come before June.
