INDIA NEWS – Health officials in the Indian state of Rajasthan have found a queer way to curb the whooping population growth by presenting cars in exchange of sterilization. The new campaign has started by the government, encouraging men and women to volunteer for sterilization exchange of luring gifts such as cars and other prizes.
Among the rewards, the ‘sterilized’ people will get Tata Nano – the world’s cheapest car.
India has been witnessing an exponential population growth and it is expected to surpass China by 2030. The growing pregnant size of the country has become a grave concern for the government.
Health officials in Rajasthan are hopeful to curb the population by this innovative offering, as they think the reward of getting car is luring enough to tempt at least 20,000 men and women to undergo sterilization.
Among other gifts, the government offers motorcycles, televisions, and food blenders.
The offer is not just confined to this Western dry region of India, but citizens from all over India can participate in this.
A nationwide campaign was started by late Sanjay Gandhi in 1970s, however, the campaign soon stopped because of complaints that men and women were forcefully sterilized by the government without a little nor no issue.
