CHINA NEWS – In a new accusation, the US has alleged China’s top search engine Baidu a notorious platform for pirated and counterfeit goods. The US Trade Representative (USTR) blamed the search engine of acting as a middle stage where it steers consumers to third-party websites where counterfeit materials are hosted.
The organization also stated that Baidu is the most visited search engine website in China and among top 10 search engine in the world. It also said that China is ignorant about intellectual property rights.
The website is blamed for illegal sales through retail outlets and Chinese markets. It is said that in the personal computer malls throughout China, such as Hailong Mall in Beijing and Yangpu Yigai digital square in Shanghai, illicit software have been sold. The USTR said that the sale of pirated software and goods gave a negative impact in the global businesses.
The USTR's Ron Kirk, who is also President Barack Obama's principal trade advisor, warned that the piracy and illegal goods demoralized creativity and detrimental to global businesses. He emphasized on the innovation, which was imperative in global competitiveness.
"These notorious markets not only hurt American workers and businesses, but are threats to entrepreneurs and industries around the world," he added.
The US Chamber of Commerce has already asked the US government to banned websites that sell counterfeit goods from operating in the country.
