INDIA NEWS - At a glittering ceremony in Bangalore, India, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was awarded ICC Cricketer of the Year trophy along with the People’s Choice Award. Another Indian cricker Virender Sehwag was given the Test Cricketer of the Year.
Over two decades, through thick and thin the cricket icon has been performing and finally bagged his maiden ICC award, beating other contenders South African Hashim Amla, Englishman Graeme Swann and Sehwag.
"It's better late than never. I am getting the award in the 21st year of my career, so it's fantastic. I have been working hard for this award," Tendulkar said after receiving the honour.
The little master debuted in November 15, 1989 at the age of 16 against Pakistan, also clinched the LG People's Choice Award.
In his statement the Tendulkar said that play continuously for 21 years was tough. He said playing for his country was a great pride.
Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named captain of the ICC's World Test XI, while best ODI team period between August 2009 and 2010 went to Australian.
ICC ODI Player of the Year bagged by South African AB de Villiers England young fast bowler Steven Finn won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year Award. In six Test matches he grabbed 27 wickets at an average of 21.85.
It is noted that voting was entirely independent of the ICC and judged by a 25-person voting academy. The multinational auditors Ernst and Young supervised the procedure.
