Brazil has made steady and strong progress in last twenty years in minimizing the mortality rates for under 5 years aged children.
UNICEF-supported community health worker network was created in the country few years ago and in 2008 over 204,000 community health workers covered about 110 million people across Brazil and the network is now one of the largest in the world.
The network is now integrated within the national system of Brazil. Responsibilities have been fully taken there at federal, state as well as municipal levels for funding and also administering the programme across Brazil.
