Australian re-elected Labor Party president is opposed to uranium exports expansion.
Jenny McAllister was declared winner yesterday in the election for the figurehead role. Tony Sheldon, key combatants in the Qantas dispute, had fallen short of votes in becoming ALP president. Over 12,000 members voted in this month-long ballot.
After being declared winner, Ms McAllister told to a Australia newspaper yesterday that it was a "real honour" getting re-elected as national president and represent the party members.
Ms McAllister mentioned she will be supporting same-sex marriage in the next month's national conference in Sydney.
According to earlier report by ALP stalwarts John Faulkner, Steve Bracks and Bob Carr, Ms McAllister is a strong backer of reform and plans to fiery debates in the conference such as uranium, industrial relations and same-sex marriage.
She said of giving ways for more voice to grassroots members in the party's policy formation.
