State Hillary Clinton visits Myanman on Wednesday marking the first visit by U.S. Secretary of State in last fifty years. She landed in Burmese administrative capital Naypyidaw with a mission to accelerate the nascent reforms introduced by the newly formed government and to balance growing influence of China with the country.

According to analysts the trip of Mrs Clinton is the latest diplomatic effort by United States to balance growing political and economic influence of China in south-east Asia. She is also expected to voice for the need of releasing political prisoners and make an end to the brutal ethnic conflicts.

Mrs Clinton is expected to meet Burmese president Thein Sein along with other government ministers. Later she will be flying to Rangoon to meet with opposition leader Suu Kyi and non-government organisations.

Burma was once a good supplier of food across Asia. The country also enjoyed highest standards in health and literacy in the continent until World War II.

Burma now exports gas and some other lucrative products to the neighboring countries, but common people have seen little benefit in it. Over years the country remained under tight European and US sanctions.

Last time US secretary of state visited Burma was John Foster Dulles in 1955.
