Bomb exploded in series on Tuesday across southern town of Yala in Thailand killing at least three people and wounding dozens. Thai military said there were about a dozen coordinated bomb explosions in the insurgency-plagued town.
According to Internal Security Operations Command of the Thai military, the bombs were detonated by suspected Muslim insurgents in school, hotels and shops. At three other spots the authorities managed to defuse the bombs.
Today was the anniversary of the 2004 suppression of anti-government protest in Tak Bai in the neighboring Narathiwat province in which 7 protesters were shot and seventy-eight other demonstrators died of asphyxiation while being taken to a detention center piled on top of one another on military trucks.
Since the Islamic insurgency flared in 2004, over 4700 people have been killed in the southernmost Muslim dominated provinces in Thailand.
Late last month suspected insurgents in dozen killed four soldiers attacking a school in Narathiwat. One child was seriously injured in the attack.
