THAILAND NEWS - Thailand has got its first female prime minister when the parliament elected 44 year old Yingluck Shinawatra whose party and its coalition partners now dominate in the lower house with a huge majority.
Last month Thai Election saw a clear victory for Yingluch Shinawatra led Pheu Thai Party. In the lower house, 296 of legislature's 500 members voted for Ms. Yungluck, while 3 voted against her and remaining 197 members abstained from voting.
After the televised vote in parliament, King Bhumibol Adulyadej is expected to invite Thaksin Shinawatra in a formal ceremony.
Thailand has witnessed five years of political turmoil and now the 44 year old Ms. Yungluch will face her biggest challenge to mobilize the mass and bring stability to the kingdom.
In 2006, her brother who was popular among people of both rural and urban poor - was thrown out of office by military coup. Mr. Thaksin is in exile in Dubai, believing a major influence throughout the election campaign. However, the party said that his role was purely advisory.
Since 2006, Thailand has been divided by internal divisions. Last year thousands of Pheu party supporters protested at occupied parts of Bangkok for months, but eventually dozens of people killed by army.
Ms. Yungluck has no previous political experience but she said that her first priority was to achieve reconciliation. She said that despite her party to won clear majority of seats in parliament, Pheu Thai would form coalition with four other parties to work together.
