CHINA NEWS - China has shown its hostility over US President Barack Obama’s scheduled meeting with exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama. China’s foreign ministry demanded Mr. Obama to cancel the half and hour meeting with the Dalai Lama.
The Washington private discussion with the spiritual leader is intended to show US support for Tibetan’s identity. Early February 2010 meeting of Mr. Obama and the Dalai Lama invited condemnation from Beijing.
A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said in a statement that they firmly opposed the idea of any senior foreign government to meet with the Dalai Lama.
The White House has maintained a mum position abut Beijing’s discontentment. However, in an early statement by the White House said that the US President would encourage dialogue process between the Dalai Lama’s representatives and the Chinese government to resolve differences.
In another incident, China has been heavily criticized by the Vatican for ordaining a bishop without the consent of the Pope.
Huang Bingzhang is ordained in Guangdong province by the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association, has now been excommunicated by the Vatican.
"The Holy See does not recognise him as Bishop of the Diocese of Shantou, and he lacks authority to govern the Catholic community of the Diocese," a Vatican statement said.
China has two sects of Catholics; some are members of the communist approved church, while others are faithful to the Vatican.
