MYANMAR NEWS - After more than seven years of house arrest, 65 year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner and Myanmar's pro-democracy leader San Suu Kyi addressed a jubilant supporters, nevertheless, while addressing, she smiled stiffly as she struggled to mask her disappointment.

The aged lines were clearly visible on the face of former General Secretary of the National League for Democracy, though the enduring power and strength in voice superimposed all physical sufferings. She addressed thousands of supporters to a rally at which she promised to pave way to a new politics in Myanmar.

After her freedom, the outpouring of public support is overwhelming and testifies that she has re-emerged with her popularity and moral authority intact. She redefined democracy and said that a true democracy was when people kept a government in check. She asked for a strong network, not only in the country but around the world. She pledged that she would try her best to do that. But again, she asked people to work and struggle for freedom as she said in a fierce voice; " If you do nothing you get nothing.”

A Theravada Buddhist, Suu Kyi tried to put spokes in the wheel by her political harangue, revolting against the autocracy of military junta, but gave no specifics, and it was in dilemma what steps she would take next.

“I’m going to work for national reconciliation. That is a very important thing,” she said. Further she added she had no personal grudge toward anybody and ready to talk with anyone.

Her lawyers said she is freed unconditionally, but it remained unclear of the expectation of the government about her role in politics. It is also in doubt whether the government set a long term restrictions to limit her activities or intended to open a dialog with her.

Suu Kyi cleared in the news conference that she was open and would meet with anybody, even the leader of the junta, Senior General Than Shwe.
