The story of Afghan women do not seem rosy since the demolition of Taliban autocracy in Afghanistan. They lead a life of poverty, forced marriages, abuse, and despondency, and now they have found a harrowing escape - fiery out from the misery by burning themselves alive.
The lone medical center that specifically treats victim of burning, testifying the pathetic condition of Afghan women who commit a common form of suicide. From early October, at least 75 women are said to be admitted in the medical center with self-inflicted burn. Nevertheless, numbers only say half of the story.
The extraordinary conservatism in Afghan families has left groping for a stronger exclamation of disbelief where the deplorable condition of women screams from the shadow. Their restrictions are endless, and the family is their fate. After marriage a woman's primary job is like a master's dog - to serve her husband and family. She does not have any outside world; if anyone dares, she is an outcast.
Before marriage the story is not much different. The girl does not have the right to education, little choice about whom she will marry and no lateral fredom in her own house at all. Eventually, troubles at home precedence to mental illness. They suffer from clinically mental illness and acute depression. The condition is so grave that if a woman runs away from home, she either be raped, or put behind the bars and then send it to home. The terror against women in Afghanistan is horrific and there is literally no track for it.
Returning home is more horrible situation for them as most of the women either shot or stabbed in honor killings because the families fear they have spent time unchaperoned with a man. In Afghanistan, after Taliban regime, women and children are still stoned to death.
“Violence in the lives of Afghanistan’s women comes from everywhere: from her father or brother, from her husband, from her father-in-law, from her mother-in-law and sister-in-law,” said Dr. Shafiqa Eanin, a plastic surgeon at the burn hospital.
Most of the women choose burning themselves rather other form of suicide because it's an inexpensive way, and the tools to do it are so readily available.
