Iraq has taken two long years to train up its demoralized army to mount offensive for the recapture of Mosul, but backed by cover as well as special forces of the greatest powers of the world.
Experts believe, after week into the onslaught, it could either make or break battle for the country. It could also determine the future of ISIS and reshape part of Middle East.
However, the battle could go long and would be hard too.
There's one important way for speedy conclusion of the battle in the city. If the local fighters are persuaded to drop allegiance to the ISIS, there's a chance, of course, and this could prove to be major implications for the future of Iraq.
Mosul is the second biggest city of Iraq and is the same where in 2014 the ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared Sunni caliphate.
Currently 30,000 Iraqi regular force is deployed in Mosul backed by the US and Europeans apart from the Shi'ite and Kurdish militias.
An estimation points the ISIS just have between 4,000 and 8,000 fighters in the city, but well prepared with explosives, mined and booby-trapped roads. It is also known the ISIS has plentiful supply of suicide bombers.
So amid all such situations the city would undoubtedly be a multi-month endeavor.
