After disappointing flop "Land of the Lost" in the last year, Will Ferrell's funny bone creates magic in the audience, opening a solid $35.6 million in US theaters. Starting Will Ferrell paired with Mark Wahlberg, the movie dominates the week over other flicks such as "Step Up 3D," and "Inception".
The Christopher Nolan-directed thriller Inception finally dropped from its first position, gaining a modest 32% on its fourth weekend. The film gross a total of $18.6 million in fourth week in US. However, it generated a good $46.6 million in 58 foreign markets, and $227.7 million in US and Canada in its fourth week.
"The Other Guys" is another hit in Ferrell's cap after 2008's "Step Brothers," 2007's "Blades of Glory," 2004's "Anchorman" and 2003's "Elf". For the recent comedy Ferrell and Wahlberg did some aggressive publicity that surely made the movie curious in the eyes of audience.
However, young and male audience have a rather cold reception on the movie as they gave it a B grade. And the buzz is, however, the movie although witnessed a grand opening, would disappear from the domestic market soon.
"I do think it's going to hang in there for the rest of the summer," said Sony distribution President Rory Bruer. "Right from the first screening we knew we had a funny movie."
Ferrell comedies often does well in domestic market but not fly dust much business overseas. However, Sony is hoping a good show overseas market as well as the movie is still to be opened largely overseas.
The movie is about two mismatch police officers - New York city detective Allen Gamble who is a forensic accountant always engages in office paperwork and not willing for any fieldwork. Whereas erry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) is field officer who accidentally bumps into Gamble and lately things don't work with them.
