Only 41 percent of Americans approved the performance, according to the USA Today/Gallup poll -- his worst showing since taking office in January 2009.

43 percent of Americans say that the nation did a grave mistake in sending their troops to Afghanistan. Public confidence in Obama’s war policy also sank to 36 percent, behind 48 percent in February survey.

However, most of the Americans believed that president Obama managed the economy than for the war. 39 percent of citizens supported his economy handling.

The leak of 92,000 secret US government documents on Afghan war has given potent ammo to those who were vehemently objecting the mission. They also pointed out that the Pakistan who is a key ally in Afghan war, has developed strong connections with Islamist insurgents in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, US officials have criticized the website Wikileaks for opening the secret documents to public.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, meanwhile, confessed in a French daily Le Monde that forces in Afghanistan “are losing the war against the Taliban”.
