INDIA - Aamir Khan and his new offering to Bollywood fans, 'Peepli [Live]', gave birth to a new star and new destination for many.
The lead actor Nattha (real name Omkar) became a star in the quickest ever time and Peepli village of Uttar Pradesh a hotspot where the farmland prices soared up to 33 percent.
Aamir Khan was tempted to play the role of Nattha when director Anusha Rizvi narrated the story. He wanted to get similar love and acceptance from rurals that he received after 'Lagaan', playing the role of Bhuvan.
Aamir said, " fell in love when Anusha read out Nattha to me. I was tempted to play this role but somehow couldn’t give the screen test as I was busy shooting for ‘3 Idiots’. Habib Tanvir told us about Omkar and when he auditioned for the role, we all were amazed by his performance. After that I didn’t dare to do a screen test. And we got Nattha."
Mr. Perfectionist also said that Omkar Das is a theatre actor and Peepli Live is his first film.
Omkar Das Manikpuri is from Chattisgarh and started his career from a local folk theatre called Nacha. Later he joined Naya Theatre and performed in the country and abroad timeless classics as Agra Bazaar, Sadak and Charandas Chor.
