ISRAEL - A stern warning issued by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Sunday to the Hamas rulers of Gaza after a weekend of rocket on its communities from the Palestinian territory.
On Friday a rocket was fired at an Israli city, 6 miles from Gaza, which caused damaged, but no injuries were reported. Israeli army fired back series of airstrikes in which a senior commander of the Hamas military wing died.
There have been years of rocket fire from Gaza side, but it has subsided largely since December 2008 after Israel launched a fierce offensive in the Palestinian territory.
The rocket fires are usually carried out by smaller militant groups.
Israeli President Shimon Peres voiced of calles for direct talks, but, earlier, exiled leader of Hamas, Khaled Mashaal, denounced American demands for direct peace talks.
Suleman Awwad, spokesman of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, said the direct talks must be "serious, continuous with a fixed time limit." He added that Israel should take measures to ease west Bank's conditions.
